Georgia Audition at Tykes 2000

Today Dan Walsh and myself returned to Tykes 2000 and auditioned actors for the role of Georgia. Like before we observed a workshop where the teachers set up improvised scenes similar to scenarios in the script. After this we auditioned 4 girls with them all reading lines to Courtney who came along to the session.

Here is what we felt about each girl

Georgina was 22 year old who really over acted the role and didn’t real fit right the character either.

Shai gave a nice performance, Dan and I were worried that looked a little young, while we assumed she was 16 she is actually 14, which led us to conclude she was definitely too young.

Megan (16) gave the best performance for the character and had the blonde hair. However her age and current place of residence make casting her very troubling.
Though Megan had potential I have decided the best course of action is to keep looking.

As well as that we spoke with one of the teachers of the workshop about him playing the character of Pete Walsh. David Moore is very enthusiastic about the idea and looks very close to how I imagined the character.

Audition for Georgia

Today we auditioned two girls for the role of Georgia, both girls were decent enough actors and both had pros and cons about what would be a good reason to cast them in the role.

We took notes on all of them and I read the character of Nathan for the actors to have someone to talk to.

Cara Middleton.
Cara drove to the audition and showed up on time, she was friendly whilst also very professional. When performing the scenes in the audition I felt she did an excellent job of getting across the characters friendly nature whilst clearly finding Nathan cute. However I feel that while Cara is good looking, she does not look the right age to play Georgia or a character a teenage boy would have a major crush on.

Morven Robinson.
Morven was 20 minutes late to the audition due to missing her train. When at the audition she apologised and explained she was suffering from a cold. Morven’s performance was good and heavily emphasised a fondness for Nathan. I feel that Morven is closer to the physical appearance of Georgia I have imagined and I also feel that her performance was quite good. However her inability to drive and her current living location (Rotherham) makes her being able to appear on set all the more difficult.

I feel that while there is potential in both the actors auditioned it would be best to keep looking for now.

Auditions for Jake

Today I drove Dan Walsh and Clarice Flack to Tykes 2000 child acting agency in Barnsley. Although we plan to keep our actor Courtney as the main character Nathan, the script calls for another child actor to play the character of Jake. Unfortunately due to many laws about permission we were not able to record the auditions we held at Tykes 2000. The auditions were similar to when we auditioned for the character of Nathan. Like last time we observed an acting workshop and worked with the teachers to arrange scenes and situations for them to act in. The only child actor who all 3 of us felt had the potential to play Jake was Alan Jedrzejczkyz. Alan is 12 like Courtney and the two know each other from the workshop. Alan is tall (especially when compared to Courtney) and looks similar to how I imagined the Character when I wrote the script.

Alan has been given a copy of the script and we will keep in contact with him through his and Courtney’s agent, Gaynor Watts.

Tykes 2000 also invited us to audition several older girls they knew for the role of Georgia. We plan to audition them next week.

First new meeting with Dan and Clarice

This blog will serve as my portfolio for the project and will report on my actions during the project.

Today I met with my producer Clarice and sound designer Dan Walsh to discuss what actions needed to be taken next. During this meeting we:

1) Made a list of what we needed to do for the pre production of Paper Chase to run smoothly
2) Discussed what actors were needed for the role and how we would get them. We quickly agreed that Courtney Rezvani should reprise his role of Nathan Bailey and the other child character Jake would be auditioned for at the same child acting agency we found courttney (Tykes 2000 in Barnsley.) Aside from that it was agreed that the adult characters such as Georgia and Mr Mackey would be searched for in wider capacity than in Morning Glory and as well as the SHU drama society, acting websites such as starnow would be used to find potential actors.

3) Decided when/where Auditions are to be held. It was agreed that the sound room in Sheffield Hallam University’s Harmer building should be booked for these auditions.

4) We discussed what locations would be needed for filming. It was agreed that filming would take place in the outskirts of Sheffield and some of it (such as the shop and other interior scenes) would be filmed at stradbroke in Sheffield. Scouting of these locations would happen in the near future.

5) Scheduling needs to be made for the whole project and stuck to a closely as passible.

6) We also made some short term deadlines for the whole crew, for example, I have until next Tuesday to write any new material for Paper Chase, this new material will be used to lengthen the script and improve the script in any way possible.
